A New Chapter Begins at Binghamton University
The desks are
still, the campus lights have dimmed, and yet the halls are humming with new
energy at Binghamton University. On November 1, 2025, the institution turned a
page and welcomed its eighth president, Anne D’Alleva — a seasoned academic
leader who arrives ready to steer the university into its next era of
excellence.
A Leader Built for the Moment
Selected on
August 19, 2025 by the SUNY Board of Trustees, D’Alleva brings a record of
innovation and student-first leadership from her previous role as provost and
executive vice president for academic affairs at the University of Connecticut.
She steps into the presidency of Binghamton with a clear mission: deepen
research impact, expand student opportunity, and strengthen community
engagement.
From Scholar to Strategist
Her journey
is rooted in humanities, with a B.A. in Art History from Harvard University and
a M.A./Ph.D. from Columbia University — evidence of her expansive academic
pedigree. At
UConn, she not only oversaw 14 schools and colleges but launched initiatives in
AI, quantum technologies, and student success programs that helped shape entire
academic ecosystems.
Building on a Strong Foundation
D’Alleva
takes the helm after a strong era at Binghamton under former president Harvey
G. Stenger. The university emerged greater, more competitive, and
research‐intensive, and now it looks to rise further. The search committee
emphasized D’Alleva’s “vision, energy and warmth” as key to evolving the
university’s path.
A Vision for the Future
Her first moves signal intent: launching a “listening tour” to gather input, positioning students and faculty as core collaborators, and anchoring her leadership around inclusive excellence. D’Alleva said she is inspired by Binghamton’s “remarkable tradition of academic excellence, research innovation and community engagement,” and she’s ready to work “collaboratively with campus and community partners to build research strength, expand opportunities for students… and advance the University’s impact.”
Why It Matters
For students,
this transition means new opportunities—fresh programs, expanded research, and
more connections between academia and real‐world impact. For the region, it
means a renewed engine of innovation, scholarship, and civic leadership.
Binghamton University isn’t just adapting — it’s gearing up for the next level.
Final Word
The baton has
passed. Anne D’Alleva steps into the presidency of Binghamton University with
purpose and promise. The university community is ready. The city is watching.
The stage is set for something remarkable.
Here’s
to the next leap for Binghamton University — the journey is just beginning.
